Greetings, David here.
It was never Jesus’s intent that we should fill up our lives with being busy. Everyday at work I hear stories of people being so busy, with so much to do and so little time. While this may be true – what is it that we are busying ourselves with?
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. – Matthew 11:28-30
It’s easy to be busy and rush into the day and not stop, be still, be present, and appreciate life for what it is. The harder questions to ask are what are we being busy about and will this get us anywhere? Maybe we do need to learn how not to be busy. Of course inertia is not the goal here.
Simon and Garfunkel put it well in their song “Feeling Groovy”
“Slow down, you move too fast. You’ve got to make the moment last”
Some questions for you to think about:
1. What are you rushing into?
2. What are you busy with?
3. Do you have to run when you could walk?
4. What would it mean to be less busy?
5. How would this change your life?
May you this week slow down, make the moment last, and feel groovy!
