A heart of trust

Rob here.

We have to learn to trust God. I’m reflecting on a world where there are no guarantees. Your savings, your job, your safety, your relationships, your life as you know it are all in peril it seems these days. It feels like desperate times. It feels like there’s a great deal to worry about. Without wanting to minimise the tough circumstances of our lives I want to say that there’s only one sure response to make. We have to learn to trust God.

Another way to say this is to say that we must learn to live from the heart. We must learn to live from the deep place within us where God through his Holy Spirit dwells. If we don’t we end up living as if God doesn’t exist. We don’t let him lead our lives, which, of course, means we do. How’s that going by the way??

God is good and infinitely trustworthy. We can grasp that with our minds. We can quote Scripture to back it up, but if we really believed that with our whole being we would trust God with more of our life wouldn’t we? So let me suggest a starting point. Start talking to him. Not for 10 minutes in your “daily” quiet time but throughout the day as if you had your best friend hanging out with you 24/7. Ask for advice and wait for an answer. Have a coffee with God. Men, this isn’t as easy for us. Perhaps if you picture it as checking in with your superior officer. Wait for his affirmation and any ‘orders’ he may have. Think of the movies you love. Just as men developed loyalty and intimacy with Aragorn, Robin Hood, Wallace and King Arthur so it is with Jesus, our true king and friend.

Remember, your heart is good and God is better. Trust him. That is the start of fullness of life. Really!
